Return trip travel forecast Like this story? Share it with Yahoo! Buzz

Heading back home — The most active weather (and possible travel delays) will be east of the Mississippi River today. A coastal low will produce rain (and maybe a wintry morning mix in some locations) for much of the Eastern Seaboard. A trailing cold front associated with this low is triggering severe thunderstorms in Florida this morning. A tornado watch is in effect till noon for parts of southern Georgia and the eastern section of Florida’s Panhandle. The Storm Prediction Center has defined a slight risk area for severe thunderstorms today that includes much of Florida as well as southern Georgia. It will be a wet ride along I-95, as rain is expected to spread northward from the Mid-Atlantic into the Northeast, with heaviest rainfall expected in parts of the Carolinas into southeastern Virginia. Along and west of the Appalachians, temperatures will be near the freezing mark and there may be light accumulations of freezing rain, sleet and snow. Holiday travelers should be particularly cautions when traveling in higher elevations. Winter weather advisories extend from northern Maine through the mountains of northwestern North Carolina.
